Animal Control Information
Residents in communities contracted with Friends of Animals can report the following animal related concerns to our animal control officer:
- Stray animal
- Animal cruelty
- Injured animal
- Animal bite/attack
- Dangerous animal
- Deceased animal
- Resident has prohibited pet(s)
- Unsanitary keeping of pets
- Feces in yard not picked up
- Pets in a food establishment
- Animal is off-leash
- Other ordinance violation
Filing an abuse or neglect complaint
Complaints and the names of complainant directed to our Animal Control & Humane Investigations ( ACHI ) Department are kept confidential at all times.
You may contact us by phone during office hours or email after hours to speak with an Animal Control Officer.
Please do not email if it is an emergency, call 218-428-0379. If the emergency is after 8:00 pm call 911.
As in all criminal cases, the proper evidence and witnesses are required to successfully build a case for seizure and/or prosecution. When calling us to file a complaint or concern, please have the following information available:
1. Location of the complaint ( specific address )
2. Dates you witnessed
3. A brief and specific account of the facts and what was involved
4. Your name, daytime and evening phone number
This information is needed to follow up with you and/or for future information. All of the information you provide is kept confidential and is used only by the Officers of the Animal Control & Humane Investigations Department.

The ACHI Department’s normal business hours are Monday through Friday 8 am – 4 pm
However, our officer is available for emergency calls until 8 pm.
