Friends of Animals named Best Animal Rescue Shelter

We recently received word from the producers of the Hollywood, California based Official Best Of production company that we've been honored as recipients of the Best Animal Rescue Shelter in Minnesota for 2016!

Official Best Of (OBO) provides TV & web viewers with the official best places to visit in America.  Recipients of the distininction receive a fully produced promotional video to use for their organization's marketing purposes.  After all features are produced for the year, they are compiled into a television program.  Features have aired on ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX and The Discovery Channel.  Additionally, each individual feature is available to view online at www.officialbestof.com.

Friends of Animals Hires New Executive Director

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (November 4, 2016, Cloquet, MN): The Friends of Animals Humane Society announced the hire of new Executive Director Kimberly Parmeter to lead the organization in their fundraising and operational efforts as they transition to their new 12,000 square foot facility at 1001 Avenue B in Cloquet. She will take over for current director Cindy Haglin who is retiring from the position later this month.
 
Parmeter has a Masters degree in Business Administration from Bethel University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with an emphasis in Marketing from the University of Minnesota Duluth. Most recently she worked for Minnesota State Colleges and Universities as the Executive Director of the Foundation and Alumni Association at Lake Superior College in Duluth and has over 10 years of fundraising experience in Northern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin.
 
“It’s an exciting time to step into this role as we ready ourselves for a new building with much more room for our animals and for the public. I’m already in awe of the love and support this organization receives from the community and surrounding areas in our mission to give all animals a loving home,” said Parmeter.
 
Parmeter is the daughter of Karen (Carlton, Class of 1968) and Rodney (Barnum, Class of 1966) Johnson of rural Cornell, WI. Parmeter lives with her husband Jim, two children, Cecelia and Mason, and cat Remy in Midway Township.

Girls Scout Bronze Award Project

Scouts from Troop #4026 in Proctor presented over 70 tie blankets they made for shelter cats to take with them when they are adopted.  The troop also made cat care fact sheets for the cat adoption folders.  The girls presented their projects to the FOA staff & then enjoyed decorating cat carriers and playing in the cat rooms.  Thank you girls and congrats on your award!

The never-ending, tough winter forced our loyal and hard-working furnance into retirement. We were in need of a new furnance. Thanks to the generosity of so many, we were able to raise enough funds for a replacement in a hurry.

Friends of Animals took in 34 dogs from a rather unfortunate circumstance read the stories here:

Min-Pins, Dachshunds, and Yorkies Oh my!  All of the dogs in this article have found their fur-ever homes!

Friends of Animals received a very generous donation on behalf of Katherine Hooey. She was an animal lover and supporter of Friends of Animals that wished to see the animals no longer in kennels.  We used her donation to build our beautiful kitty community rooms.
